Scenic Diversity

Uganda is often referred to as the "Pearl of Africa", a name that reflects its exceptionally rich and green nature. From the dense mountain rainforests in the southwest across the wide savannas to the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, the country offers constantly changing landscapes within a relatively small area.

Encounters and Daily Life

The drives between the national parks are an experience in themselves. They lead past banana plantations, tea and coffee growing areas, and through lively villages. The people in Uganda are considered exceptionally hospitable and open. A stop at a local market or a conversation by the roadside are often among the fondest memories of a trip.

Waterways and the Nile

Water shapes Uganda. Almost a quarter of the country's surface consists of lakes and rivers. Lake Victoria in the south, the countless crater lakes in the west, and of course the majestic Nile, which begins its long journey near Jinja and forces itself powerfully through the Murchison Falls, are lifelines for people and animals alike.

The equator runs right through Uganda. At the equator markers, for example on the way to the southwest, you can literally stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere — a popular photo stop on many safaris.
